Abrams Planetarium Brings the Wonders of the Universe to MSU!

Do you ever look up in the sky and wonder what’s out there? Tour the cosmos and have your questions answered right here on campus at Abrams Planetarium!

Located near Shaw Ln. and Farm Ln., Abrams Planetarium serves as an astronomy and space science education resource center for central Michigan; and is currently showing two low-cost programs dedicated to teaching you about the universe and how it works.

The weekday show is Gateway to Infinity. This show begins on Earth and takes you out into the solar system, and then travels through the Milky Way galaxy and beyond. You will visit: a nebula, a globular cluster, a supernova, and other space spectacles. This program runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and Sundays at 4:00 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m. on Sundays, the feature is Sky Tellers. This presentation explains the reason for the changing seasons and what causes the phases of the Moon. Sky Tellers first shares Native American stories and then gives modern astronomical explanations.

Relax, and explore constellations, with Relaxing Under The Stars—a great program especially for faculty and staff. This program is offered by Health4U on November 13, and December 13, 2012 at 12:10 p.m.

The exploration of space doesn’t end in the sky theater. The exhibit hall gallery and the lobby host breathtaking pictures of galaxies, scale models of the Earth and moon, and much more!

The planetarium also features a black light gallery of florescent paintings that curve around the exterior of the sky theater. First painted in 1964, the gallery has been added to several times to reflect the expanding knowledge in the field of astronomy.

Mark your calendar for November 15, 2012, 7:30 p.m.: “The World’s Greatest Telescopes: Past, Present, and Future” by Mark Voit, Professor, Astronomy and Astrophysics.
